    Is anyone monitoring these forums?

Is anyone from SteelBlue Solutions monitoring these forums?  It would be nice to get some feedback!

Agreed, I'm a bit concerned. I really want a code generator for CSLA and was really hoping CodeBreeze would be the ticket. The templates for CodeSmith are old, and while a lot of time has obviously been invested in CodeBreeze it doesn't look like there is going to be adequate support for it from the author or community.  I might have to change the vision and go for an architecture with stronger community/product support.  Real shame.

What support are you looking for?  What are your issues?  You mention the templates for CodeSmith are old, and support for CodeBreeze is inadequate, but that shouldn't matter.  The whole point of the code template process is you can write whatever templates meet your needs.

    Hi Joseph,

Its not that I have specific support issues; I'm just concerned at the lack of responses from SteelBlue Solutions on all the other threads in this forum...questions are being raised but not being answered?  Should we be using another mechanism for raising these questions instead?

Re: Is anyone monitoring these forums?

It looks like CSLA isn't getting community support with the code generators. And there have been no responses to inquiries in this forum or direct to Miguel. I can only conclude this product and CSLA are mostly dead or dying.  I had to switch to .netTiers with CodeSmith. That's going pretty well so far.

Re: Is anyone monitoring these forums?

From what you just said, what is the issue about support?  Miguel has been very responsive to the needs in the generator itself.  The code template system lets you create your own code templates for what you need.  In order to create code templates for what you need, you will need understand the architecture of the code you are using.  From the sounds of it, you want something out of the box that runs and fits your needs for CSLA.  Now you are switching over to .netTiers using CodeSmith.  You can still create a code template in CodeBreeze that generates exactly what you want for .netTiers.

So let's get the real point.  What have you not been able to accomplish using CodeBreeze?

Re: Is anyone monitoring these forums?

Miguel asked what people think of the CSLA templates.  I posted two responses with feeback and questions and got no response.

I posted an inquiry about a custom database connector and didn't get a response.

I sent a note directly to Miguel with no response. The note (as I recall) mentioned issues with the v1.0 CodeBreeze, which is nice on the face but really shows signs of being v1.0 software.

And how long did it take someone to take interst to this thread?

Based on the lack of initiative here, including a half-hearted website with obvious broken links, it looks like CodeBreeze v1.0 was a hobby project for which the author lost interest and not many other people took interest either.

Those are my points and I think they're fairly solid.

Now all of a sudden some guy starts pressing for "why" without looking around to see unanswered posts or noticing that this is the only thread that has any activity. I don't need your grief man, my decision has been made. Back off.

Re: Is anyone monitoring these forums?

Can you shoot me an email with your custom database connector code/files and what you did?  I'll try to help you out.

In response to the community does not help or there is a lack of response, we all work, and unfortunately we don't have the time to only focus on individuals 100% of the time.  To put things into perspective, this product is relatively new, so the user base is still growing. As it continues to grow, I'm sure you will get more responses in a timely manner.

From the community and on Miguel's behalf, I'm here to help you.

Re: Is anyone monitoring these forums?

I now understand and appreciate your position here (though unverified), and I thank you for offering assistance.  As an owner of a small but international software business I fully appreciate the problem of allocating time to forums, community, etc.  This "we all work" applies to people who are trying to write production software as much as it does to people (like myself in other areas) who volunteer time to help in forums.  For me, my time spent with this software "is" work, and time taken away from my (paying) clients.  If the software provider is serious about selling the software then my time needs to be respected too. I'm not asking for "focus on individuals 100% of the time".  C'mon - at this point two individuals seem to constitute the entire active community for this software and neither of us have had real answers to any direct questions (have you even read the other postings?).

I came to this site in response to marketing (DRTV).  I was evaluating the product and the company/individual who supports it.  My experience tells me this product (and website) has a long way to go before it's production quality. I'm sorry, that's my view and I'm no longer evaluating it.  I've already moved on and will not be providing any code.  You now have more time to focus on "the other" individual.  Thanks again.

Re: Is anyone monitoring these forums?

I would suggest looking back into it.  I am currently working a full-time job, two part-time contractual jobs, and have started my own LLC to boot(which sucks because I work everyday).  Granted I could have used another generator, I have been able to do all these positions/work because of the templates I have created for myself over time.  And it does take time to create your own templates, but I'm sure you will happier knowing the code meets your needs.

I read your posts about CSLA and it seems you are new to it.  I wouldn't recommend focusing on the generator first if you do not know the CSLA framework.  Essentially, you can create your own framework that meets your needs.  There may be some things in CSLA, .netTiers, LINQ, etc. because you do not essentially have 100% full control over everything.  The way they try to still give you control is by keeping things extensible by having most things virtual so you can override it.

Anyways, feel free to shoot me an email with the build of what you were trying to accomplish and I'll look at it.

Re: Is anyone monitoring these forums?

    Gentlemen,

My sincere appologies for not commenting on this thread earlier but I do want to stress that this has been set up as a "community" forum and it is not the direct channel of support from SteelBlue Solutions.  We have always answered calls sent to support@steelbluesolutions immediately and have had terrific customer satisfaction as a result.  To the poster calling himself Starbuck, I'm sorry you feel the way you do and we wish we could change your mind but it seems that in whatever product you end up using, you are looking for the generation of your app and not understanding what it is you're generating.  If you are looking to get into CSLA, you absolutely are going to need some pre-requestite CSLA knowledge before hand.  This is going to be the case with net-tiers or any other framework you settle on.  Remember, CodeBreeze is a developer's tool and is there to help you get parts of your job done faster, not to do a job for you.  We never received any comments on our CSLA 3.5 templates as you stated you sent.  I asure you that we would have responded.  If there are any specific issues we can help you with, we welcome you back as a potential customer and ask that you send specific inquiries to support@steelbluesolutions.com.  Our customer base is extremely happy so far and we'd like to keep it that way, but we can't guarantee that there will be 24 hour monitoring of these forums as they were set up for the CodeBreeze community.  Regarding your comment on "a 1.0 product", I'm not sure what that means.  As I said, we have a very satisfied customer base.  As far as CodeBreeze being a "dead" product is concerned, that's far from reality.  CodeBreeze 2.0 is being finalized as we speak and will have some pretty amazing features.

For all others involved in this thread, thank your for your continued support.  Joseph's defense of our product is admirable and certainly appreciated.  I will say again however that we cannot guarantee constant monitoring here so if there's anything that requires immediate attention, please send us an email.  Happy customers are appreciated and unhappy potentials are always welcome at another attempt.
